A Sampling of ArtPrize

While we were in Grand Rapids, Karl and I took the opportunity walk around ArtPrize.  ArtPrize, an open art competition, is in it’s fourth year and boasts of over 1500 entries in 161 venues spanning 3 square miles of downtown Grand Rapids.  For the two weeks of ArtPrize, Grand Rapids is transformed into an outdoor/indoor museum.

We covered a few blocks with Rosario and Angelica on Sunday afternoon.  Art entries were scattered everywhere – on buildings, street corners, bridges, in parks, even in the river.  We didn’t have a lot of time, so we didn’t see much.  ArtPrize conveniently offers three guided walking paths but we were mostly on a mission to see my friend Mic Carlson‘s entry.  There were a few others that caught our attention enough to linger and admire as we made our way to the Ford museum where his statue is on display and then to his downtown gallery.
